So we made a hard choice early. The photos in your gallery would always be yours. Free to view. Free to download. Free to keep — no matter what happens to us, no matter what happens to the company, no matter what happens to anything else.
Here's exactly what that means.
Every Woven gallery is free to create, free to view, and free to download. There is no paywall to access your own memories — ever. No "trial period." No "premium unlock" to see the photos your family contributed. The free tier is the real product, not a teaser.
Every gallery includes a one-click full-resolution download. The original photos belong to you, at the quality they were captured. They live on your phone, your computer, your hard drive — wherever you want them. We host them too, but you always have your own copy.
If Woven ever cannot continue operating, your photos don't disappear with us. We've made structural commitments — explained below — so that even in the worst case, your memories remain accessible and downloadable. This is the promise we wish more companies made.
We can't promise the future will be perfect. We can promise we've planned for it. If Woven ever cannot continue operating, this is what you can count on.
Every gallery owner receives at least 90 days advance notice — by email, by in-app message, and on this website — before any service interruption. No surprises. No "we shut down yesterday" emails. You will have time to act.
You don't have to remember to download anything. We will automatically generate full-resolution archives of every gallery you own and email you direct download links — at no charge. The archive includes every original photo, every video, every voice message, every caption, and a copy of the slideshow as an MP4.
Our gallery viewer — the code that displays your photos in the beautiful Woven layout — will be released as open-source software. Anyone can host their own copy. You or a developer you trust can keep your gallery running, in its original form, indefinitely.
Every photo is stored in standard formats — JPEG, MP4, MP3 — that will be readable for decades by any device or software, with or without Woven. We use open standards on purpose. There is no proprietary lock-in.
Promises are easy to make. We've tried to build ours so they are structurally true — not just words, but commitments backed by how the product is designed and how the company is run.
